Pediatric Integration

Embedding mental health into pediatric care — because a child's emotional well-being is inseparable from their physical health.

Research shows that having mental health screening and services embedded within pediatric primary care is the best way to promote children's overall health and well-being. Pediatricians are the trusted experts for much of a child's life — and their offices are the ideal setting for early identification, intervention, and support.

Early Identification

Screening for mental health concerns during routine pediatric visits catches issues before they become crises.

Seamless Connection

Coordinated mental health services delivered where children and families need them most — at our offices, in schools, at home, or in the community.

Trusted Pathway

Pediatricians refer directly through their EHR and our Intake Care Coordinator facilitates immediate connection to the right services — no gap, no delay.

Why It Matters

Mental Health Belongs in Pediatric Care

Children's mental health is inseparable from their physical health. When screening, support, and treatment happen where families already feel safe — the pediatric office — outcomes improve and barriers disappear.

1 in 5 children will experience a mental health disorder, with recent data showing rising rates of anxiety and depression in children and teenagers. Yet the majority of these children are never connected to the services they need.

Pediatricians are often the first to see the impact of mental health and behavioral concerns. They are trusted by families, see children regularly across developmental stages, and are ideally positioned to screen, identify, and intervene early.

Our Pediatric Integration program connects mental health professionals directly with pediatric practices — creating seamless access to screening, consultation, therapy, and care coordination. Pediatricians refer through their EHR, our Intake Care Coordinator facilitates immediate connection, and services are delivered wherever the child and family need them most — at our offices, in schools, at home, or in the community.

This innovative model is grounded in CFCC's public health approach, the HOPE framework, and A Way of Being with Children — ensuring that every interaction promotes safety, resilience, and positive childhood experiences.

Our Partnerships

Integrated Care in Action

Center for Child Counseling partners with pediatric practices across Palm Beach County to bring mental health services directly into the places families already trust — creating seamless, whole-child care.

CEO Renée Layman and Medical Director Dr. Shannon Fox-Levine

For more than a decade, CFCC CEO Renée Layman and Medical Director Dr. Shannon Fox-Levine have been passionate advocates for integrating children's mental health into pediatric primary care. Together, they've built a model that proves what's possible when mental health professionals and pediatricians work side by side.

Through our partnerships, CFCC embeds therapists, care coordinators, and mental health consultants directly within pediatric practices — providing screening, assessment, therapy, parent support, and referral coordination without families ever having to leave the building.

The result: earlier identification, faster access to care, and stronger outcomes for children and families across the county.
